In the first season, shippers bid for two shipments on uShip in reverse auction format. Bids include comments on the likely risks and costs as well as the motives and the capabilities. When the time limit of an auction has expired the job is normally attributable to the bidder who has the lowest bid and at the discretion of the client however, it could be given to a bidder with a better average feedback score from previous clients. If the bidder is lowest the tie will be dissolved by the feedback rating. Season 9 shippers receive their loads via an agent for shipping. They do not see the bidding process. Instead the winners load their cargo and attempt and deliver it intact within the timeframe of the recipient or the client. Feedback ratings from clients appear after the goods have been delivered. Then, at the end of the episode, every shipper's profit is tallied on-screen, with the costs (fuel, labor, late-delivery penalties fines, etc.) subtracted from the bid amount to determine the overall gain or loss. Sometimes, shippers offer to carry additional loads in the same trip. The additional amount is then added to their total. The shipper might not be able to complete the job because of safety concerns or the size of the load. The shipper could hire an additional person to help with the job. When the work is completed and the shippers have decided which way to divide the profits. In seasons 1-8, the progress of each shipment is interspersed by humorous critiques from the other shippers.
